Tablet Buying Guide: 7 Essential Tips

The tablet has fallen on hard times recently, with falling sales and heated debate about whether we even need tablets in today’s huge smartphone-driven world.

But there are still plenty of good reasons to consider buying a tablet. Maybe you want a device to occupy your free time or to supplement your TV watching with Twitter. Maybe you don’t need a full-fledged laptop, but need something that’s bigger than a smartphone. Or maybe you’re looking to buy an easy-to-use device for the technophobe in your life.
Whatever the reason, there’s a tablet out there for you. Read on and we’ll help you find the right one for your needs.

Convertible or Stand-Alone Tablet?

When it comes to tablets, you have a choice — do you go with a standard tablet or do you go with a “convertible” tablet?
Stand-alone tablets take the form of oversize smartphones: They consist of one large touch screen, a handful of buttons on the case, a charging connector and little else. They usually weigh between 1 and 2 pounds and are typically less than half an inch thick, so they’re supercompact and portable. You control them using the touch screen, but you can usually pair them with a Bluetooth keyboard.
Convertible devices try to combine the flexibility of the PC with the convenience of a tablet. This 2-in-1 device either come with a detachable keyboard or they’re really just a full-size laptop that features a touch screen.
Detachables look and work like stand-alone tablets, but snap on to a specially designed keyboard attachment, and you can use them as laptop replacements. Some detachables come with the keyboard, while others require you to buy the keyboard separately.

If you’re looking for something small and light that you can take with you anywhere, a small tablet such as Dragon Touch M7 or Dragon Touch M8 is the way to go.

Tablets in the 10-inch range, like the Kingpad K100, provide a good balance between portability and productivity: They aren’t as easy to use with one hand, but they’re still plenty light and compact. Larger tablets, such as the Galaxy View or the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, are less portable, but they can make for suitable laptop replacements.
Notebook-tablet hybrids typically feature screen sizes around 11 to 13 inches, but they tend to be bulkier, so they aren’t ideal if size and weight are your main priorities.

How Will You Use It?

At Home
For general home use — such as Web browsing, email, listening to music and so on — most any tablet out there will fit the bill. You probably won’t need to go with a superhigh-end tablet, so look for tablets that cost less than $150. The $119.99 Dragon Touch M10X is one of our favorites.
For Work
If you plan to use your tablet as a business machine — or as a laptop replacement — you’ll want one with at least a 9-inch screen.
If you have the budget, the 10.1-inch Dragon Touch i10x is very good option.
For Gaming
Since iOS is the center of the mobile gaming universe, an iPad is a good bet. The iPad Air 2 offers a good balance between portability and power, but starting at $499, it isn’t cheap. Other options abound, however, such as the $199 gaming-centric Nvidia Shield tablet K1. This Android tablet is built around Nvidia’s Tegra K1 quad-core mobile processor and features an 8-inch, 1920 x 1080-pixel display and 2GB of memory.
What about Windows-based convertible tablets? Since these devices run full-fledged Windows, you can play a good many PC games on them. They won’t keep up with high-end gaming rigs, but many are more than suitable for more casual PC gaming.

For the Kids

With tablets for children, you’ll want to consider size, price, durability and parental-control features. A 7-inch tablet will be more suitable for small hands, and given the risk of a broken tablet, you’ll want to stay on the lower end — no more than about $100. The $49.99 M7 Kids Tablet is a good choice, with its rubber bumpers, compact size, parental controls and kid-friendly interface. Plus, it comes with a two-year guarantee that says the company will replace it if your child does serious damage.

For Media Consumption
Any of the tablet ecosystems are good choices for watching movies or TV shows and listening to music, but if you’re a true media junkie, theDragon Touch X10 10-inch may be for you. Another great option could be the iPad Air 2, which integrates with iTunes and sports a 2048 x 1536-pixel screen.

Which specs matter?

Tablet specs can be tricky to discern, since not all manufacturers fully disclose their devices’ innards. Here’s a quick rundown on what you might see, and what it all means.

RAM (Memory)

RAM isn’t quite as big a selling point on tablets because of how iOS and Android manage memory. Generally speaking, however, the more you spend, the more RAM you’ll get, and on most tablets, you can expect anywhere between 1GB and 4GB of memory. Laptop/tablet hybrids and other Windows-based convertible tablets, like the Surface Pro 4, typically offer more memory, sometimes up to 16GB of RAM. More RAM often equates to snappier performance.

Storage and Expandability

Stand-alone tablets typically come with 8 or 16GB of storage on the low end, and up to 128GB on the high end. Convertible Windows tablets often have storage capacities more in line with typical notebooks, so it isn’t unusual to find one with 256GB of storage or more. Some tablets include SD card readers that allow you to expand your device’s storage capacity. Unless you don’t use your tablet much, you may find 8 or 16 GB to be a little too constraining for your needs, so you’ll probably want to pay a little more and get at least 32GB of storage space — or look for one with an onboard SD card slot.

How About Battery Life?

Many tablets will get you all-day battery life, but as our testing shows, tablet battery life can still vary greatly. Lenovo’s Android-based Yoga Tab 3 lasted more than 15 hours on a single charge in our Web browsing tests, but on average, the devices we tested ran for 8 hours and 45 minutes before their batteries ran dry. We recommend you look for a tablet that runs for no less than 7 hours on a single charge.

Is the Price Right?

You can pay an awful lot for a tablet — but you don’t have to. Tablets range from more than $1,000 on the high end to less than $50 on the low end, so you have plenty of options, regardless of how much or how little you want to spend.

Dragon Touch X10 Tablet Review

Get this article from here

After 2 years on the market, the Dragon Touch X10 remains one of the finest tablets available from any manufacturer. What we’ve done here is to take the Dragon Touch X10 through the paces over a period of several months to give you an idea of what it’s like to own this device for a real-life period of time, wear and tear included. Here we decide whether or not the Dragon Touch X10 really should be considered the tablet you compare all other tablets to here and through the future.

Hardware
This device represents Google Android 5.1 Lollipop. The Dragon Touch X10is currently the finest 8-core Android-based tablet on the market, as well it should be. Since the Dragon Touch X10 was first released in 2013, there hasn’t been another Android tablet released that can beat it.
As other writers and reviewers mentioned, though, we’re going to go ahead and cross our fingers that this is just the beginning. This is the new baseline for expected hardware greatness in tablet manufacturing.
If hardware manufacturers can create a device with this level of excellence in hardware, injecting a unique software experience that creates something uniquely desirable, there’s a chance of taking some market share away from Apple’s iPad.
A tablet with this build quality, the hunger for futuristic features, and an advertising budget like Samsung has – those are the qualities needed to create a competitor for the iPad in today’s market.
Product Specification:
–Dragon Touch X10
–Google Android 5.1 Lollipop
–10” 1366×768 IPS Screen, 10 point Touch
–8 Core up to 2.0 GHz, 8-Core GPU
–16 GB storage, 1GB RAM
–Camera: Rear 5.0MP w/ AF, Front 2.0MP
–Bluetooth, Mini HDMI, Wi-Fi, Standard USB, Micro USB
–Battery: 7200 mAH

“Where older Android devices, even with the latest crop of processors, could sometimes stutter and grumble when scrolling or panning, I’ve been impressed by how smooth Lollipop is.”
What’s surprised me the most about the Dragon Touch X10’s hardware is its durability. While I don’t expect the device would survive a nice slam against the edge of a concrete stair, it’s held up very, very nicely over the past several months.
The size is handy – it’s able to fit in the small pocket of a Razer backpack instead of needing to go in near the laptop slot. As such, it doesn’t end up getting many scratches.
In fact I’ve got only the barest and lightest of wear showing on the front of this device. On the back I can see some changes in the rubbery plastic (as you’ll see at the head of this article), but certainly nothing major.
While the lens array for the back-facing camera does sit up a little from the rest of the back of the device, it’s the rim of the lens that sticks up furthest, leaving the tiniest amount of space between itself and the surface of the lens glass. Because of this, this lens has nary a scratch.

Software
What are you going to do with all the processing power this Dragon Touch X10 have to offer?
Android 5.1 Lollipop brings the best of Google’s tablet-sized user interface knowledge to light, and makes a good tablet great.
Android Lollipop hasn’t changed a major amount in the past several months, and the Dragon Touch X10 has remained solid for speed for the most part.
One of the most important parts of a long-lasting tablet is its long-lasting battery. As you’ll see below, this machine hasn’t faltered in that category.
This tablet has served perfectly for dinner preparation for weeks on end. Watching movies while we cook as well as looking up recipes on the fly – it’s all good. The rubbery edge especially has been helpful in keeping this machine propped up against a wall on our countertop.
Tossing this tablet in a backpack for long trips between states – trips we take every few weeks – has resulted in some of the most satisfying long-form entertainment we’ve had on a tablet.
Camera
Please stop taking photos of things in public with your tablet. Just stop. Devices like theDragon Touch X10 should be taking photos only when you need to document something for yourself, in private.
As such, the camera on the Dragon Touch X10 is perfectly legit. It doesn’t hold up to the newest generation of iPad cameras, but it’s far better than the previous generation of basically every tablet in existence.
Battery
The Dragon Touch X10 works with a relatively massive battery at 6700mAh, especially for a device you won’t end up using all day long. If you DO end up using your tablet all day long, there’s still good news – you’re not going to be running out of battery any faster here than you would with any comparable device.
Wrap-up
Dragon Touch X10 is great, but it might not be meant for you. If you’re a developer and want to keep up with Google’s Android builds, starting with Android 5.1 Lollipop, then this is the tablet you’re looking for.
If you’re looking for an entertainment machine that’ll set the baseline for all Android tablets made by top-tier brands in 2016, this is your device.
If you want a slightly smaller tablet that rolls with right around the same processing power created by a company that’s keeping it up to date just as fast as – or sometimes faster than – Google, you might want to look here.

Kingpad K100 Android Tablet Review

Get this article from linusking.kinja.com
I have been throwing around the idea of buying a low-end android tablet to play with as a toy. To go so far as to think that I might take a cheap android tablet, strap some sticky magnets to the back of it and mount it to my refrigerator.
The idea of having a android tablet mounted on my refrigerator was to be able to maintain to do lists, grocery lists, event calendars, look up information and possibly make Skype calls. Smartphones can do all this, but I was actually looking for something with a little bit bigger screen, it was easier to read and more comfortable to work with.
I went onto Google and looked for android tablets that were 10 inch. I found one that I thought would be a good purchase and I waited for it to arrive.

Kingpad is the brand name of android tablets I purchased. I thought it was a good purchase because it had a stylus, Ethernet port, HDMI, headphones, Webcam, USB ports, an SD slot, a 10“ screen, it came with a case & 10” keyboard and it seemed to have a decent amount of storage. I wasn’t so much concerned about the speed processor because I didn’t see myself using it for intensive purposes.
When I received the tablet, it was in fairly good shape. The packaging was good and the construction of the tablet seem to be in pretty good order.
When I powered on the tablet for the first time, it was fully charged and I was able to use it right away. I didn’t have a problems with the display of the tablet.
I entered in my Google account information and I was into sync up to my Gmail and Google calendar information. I was able to download several applications from the Google market [Google Play].

Kinagpad 100 tablet specifications:
— Google Android 4.4 (KitKat)
— 10.6” IPS Multi-touch screen 1366×768
— Quad Core 4×1.2GH
— 16 GB storage,1GB RAM
— Dual Camera: 2.0 MP
— Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Standard USB, Micro USB
— G-sensor
— Battery: 7200 mAH

Battery Life
Everyone is always interested in the longevity of the battery with portable devices. The packaging of theKingpad K100 tablet indicates that the runtime of this tablet with a full battery is eight hours. While I was doing my testing, I was putting the tablet through its paces. I was downloading applications, I was playing games, I was video conferencing; I was doing a whole bunch of stuff.
When I received the Kingpad K100 tablet initially, the tablet came fully charged, which was terribly convenient. By my estimations, I was able to get at least a full five hours of use out of the tablet before I get any kind of notification to recharge. That five hours was what I would consider intense usage. Having said that, I think that the runtime for the battery, for this tablet, went very well.
For instance, I charged the tablet yesterday to full capacity, but today I haven’t been loading applications or playing games consistently, but I’ve been turning the tablet on and off checking emails and browsing the web and checking this and that, and I haven’t seen the battery usage on the tablet dropped considerably yet. At this point, it’s been off the charger for approximately 10 hours and I still have 63% battery left over; it’s holding up very well.
Conclusions
This Kingpad K100 from Tablet Express is definitely a solid performing tablet, it gets the job done. It has a quad core processor for fluid handling, a substantial graphics rendering engine to handle higher end games & video conferencing, and the battery life is really good. My thoughts are that this would be a great for a gift for a friend/family member, or if you just want something to have to casually browse the web on the couch; or just kill time with a random game. For the price, it’s a confident purchase.

Dragon Touch i10X Windows 10 Tablet Review (2016)

Get this review from: http://technicallywell.com/dragon-touch-i10x-windows-10-tablet-review-2016

Get work done without the high price tag of a Surface tablet. The Dragon Touch i10X tablet gives you a versatile Windows 10 tablet for a lot less.
PROs
  • Windows 10: The Dragon Touch i10X tablet comes pre-loaded with the Home edition of Windows 10. The setup process was easy and I was up and running in no time. Windows 10 defaulted to “desktop mode” which is ideal when you have the tablet in the included keyboard case. And the tablet can easily be switched to “tablet mode” in the Action Center for when you’re using it sans keyboard.
  • Keyboard case: The case’s magnetic flaps allow it to fold up and nicely prop up the tablet to a familiar “laptop” angle. The integrated keyboard has a proprietary magnetic connector that holds the tablet in place while allowing you to remove it easy. The keyboard keys are a little more cramp than a traditional computer, but still very usable. The integrated touchpad is also responsive and can be disabled by pressing Fn+Alt. This is usual for when you will be typing for long periods and don’t want your hand to inadvertently move the cursor.
  • Display: The 10 inch display provides ample room for using Windows 10, even in “desktop mode”, although you may find “tablet mode” to be more ideal. The screen is bright and vivid, and the IPS feature means that the display doesn’t look washed out when viewing it at an angle.
  • 64GB of storage: While only about 49GB is available for use out-of-the-box, this still provides ample storage for a handful of applications, as well as your personal documents and photos. You also have the option of using cloud storage, such as the built-in OneDrive, as well as using a Micro SD card to expand the storage.
  • Bluetooth: The integrated Bluetooth allows you to pair it with a Bluetooth mouse or a Bluetooth speaker.
  • Full-sized USB port: You can easily attached a flash drive without needing to use an OTG adapter (although, one is included for the Micro USB port)
CONs
  • 2GB of RAM: Many consider this to be the minimum for Windows 10 (well, technically 1GB is the minimum for Windows 10 32-bit). However, the tablet can handle running multiple programs at once, but you may notice increased slowness or hesitations when switching between applications. If you tend to focus on 1 application at a time and close out your applications when you’re done with them, then this may not be an issue for you.
  • Speakers: Sound quality from the built-in speakers is low and tinny, but you connect headphone or pair the tablet with a Bluetooth speaker if you plan to play music and stream Pandora.
  • Cameras: The built-in cameras are not the best quality and require a lot of light for decent pictures. But they are functional for a quick Skype call.
  • Special charger: The tablet comes with an uncommon charger with a barrel connector. You’ll want to keep track of this and not lose it. However, I did find that the Micro USB port can be used to charge the tablet if needed, although it may not be as fast as the supplied charger.
Overall, the Dragon Touch i10X is a functional tablet and is ideal for students and business professionals alike. The included keyboard case gives you a laptop-like experience and makes working on documents convenient. And the tablet provides plenty of connectivity options such as a Mini HDMI output, a full-sized USB port, and integrated Bluetooth.

Dragon Touch Y88X 7-Inch Quad Core Android 4.4 Dual Camera Kids Tablet Review

Shopping for your child’s first tablet is rapidly becoming tricky. There’s a growing number of options out there and it’s not easy to choose between them; but if you want to keep those little, grubby mitts off your expensive and quite breakable iPad, you better choose one soon. The Android-based Dragon Touch Y88X Kids Tablet ($35.99) is the latest entrant from one of the biggest names in educational toys, and it has plenty to recommend it. Designed for kids, it comes pre-loaded with fantastic age-appropriate software and comprehensive parental controls.
My three year-old daughter and six year-old son just spent a week playing with it, and gave a resounding thumbs up when asked, but it wasn’t all plain-sailing. So, should the Dragon Touch Y88X Kids Tablet onto your shopping list? Let’s take a closer look.

BUILT TO WITHSTAND KIDS
It’s not unusual for kids, especially young kids, to destroy electronics, so a dedicated tablet for children really has to be tough. The Dragon Touch Y88X Plus Kids Tablet doesn’t disappoint. Encased in a chunky bright green\red\blue\pink rubber bumper, the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus Kids Tablet is well-protected out of the box. The bumper is removable when older kids don’t need it, and the exposed tablet underneath has rounded edges and huge bezels.
The tablet has a 7-inch screen, but overall it’s a little bigger than regular models with similar sized displays. The back is perforated white plastic, and that’s where you’ll find the main camera and the speaker. All the controls and ports are found up top if you’re holding the tablet in landscape view. There are easy to press power and volume controls, a recessed micro-USB port for charging, and a headphone jack. There’s also a stylus that’s attached to the body by a cord, which slots neatly away in the bottom left corner when it’s not needed.
My six year-old son is used to tablets and took to the Dragon Touch Y88X Plus quickly. My three year-old daughter hasn’t had as much time with them, but she clearly found it much easier to hold than our old Nexus 7 or the iPad Air. She also loved the stylus and used it at every opportunity, even gripping onto it tightly when it came time to put the tablet away for the day, in the hope of holding onto it for a while longer.
SOFTWARE DESIGNED FOR KIDS
The Dragon Touch Y88X Plus Kids Tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat under the specially-designed interface. You get occasional glimpses of it, when you swipe down from the top and see the standard notification shade for example, but otherwise it’s heavily modified.
